Well, even though they’re not slated to officially hit shelves until November 17th, we’ve heard from a slew of vigilant tipsters (hipsters?) that they’re back.

No Related Stories at this time! Apple released iPod touch Software 2.2 early Friday morning, along with iPhone Software 2.2. The update for the touch screen iPod added the ability to download podcasts when away from your computer.

Hot dog maker Hatfield constructed a hot dog launcher with the help of the Philly Phanatic, famous weirdo mascot of the Philadelphia Phillies, for use during Phillies games. And now, in a fit of boredom and comedic inspiration, they’ve released a “documentary” detailing the making of the launcher. It’s absolutely hilarious, and I’m not saying that just because I’m Gizmodo’s token Pennsylvanian.
The video ends with a “Hatfield engineer” looking into the distance and musing about how nuclear power might be in the future for the launcher: “We’ve talked about rocket-propelled hot dogs, we’ve said, you know, is nuclear power an option? We’d have to play with it a little bit…” It’s pretty much the best mockumentary I’ve seen since Summer Heights High. Thank you, Hatfield, for extending my Philly pride six minutes further. In case you haven’t noticed the trend, when Apple releases a new iPhone / iPod touch firmware, it has a tendency to fall to the jailbreakers at mind-boggling breakneck speed. QuickPwn and PwnageTool have now both been updated to support 2.2, though there’s a critical note in here from the iphone-dev team: if you have any interest in unlocking your iPhone 3G in the near future, only use PwnageTool, not the more painless QuickPwn. You’ve been warned!
